Three Hotchkiss faculty members were selected by the University of Chicago for this year’s Outstanding Educator Award: Justin Almeida, head of the mathematics and computer science department and instructor in mathematics; Dr. Katie Fleishman, instructor in English; and Brant Hadzima P'20, instructor in Spanish. The Hotchkiss community congratulates these instructors and thanks them for making such a positive impact in the lives of their students.

This distinguished award has existed for more than three decades. Students accepted into the University of Chicago Class of 2026 were asked to nominate an educator whose guidance helped them along the path toward intellectual growth. Responses were received from thousands of students in recognition of educators who inspired them and played a significant role in their education.

According to the university, “An Outstanding Educator shapes young minds in meaningful ways—thoughtfully approaching instruction, sharing an infectious love for learning, and caring for students both inside and outside of the classroom.”

The University of Chicago held a virtual event celebrating this year’s winners on Nov. 8.
